New site iPet Companion makes it easier than ever to play with cats; no longer do you have to take on the responsibility of owning a pet or go round your mate's to play with their new kitten. All you simply need is an internet connection and get clicking away.

This new system was developed by Idaho firm ReachIn and has been installed in several cat shelters in America, allowing on-line users around the globe to play with the cats.

So how does it work do you ask?

In each animal shelter some cats are left to roam a room freely filled with all the essentials. However, not everything is as normal as it looks; 3 of the toys in this room are mechanically controlled by a robot which are labelled toy 1 to 3. The user can control the movement of each toy by clicking on the relevant icons which can be seen below.

Here you can see the screen that users use to watch the cats and control the toys

All is visible via a webcam that is installed in the corner of the room which can be controlled by the user, even giving the ability to zoom in.
Each user must wait in a virtual queue until it is their turn to play, during this time you can watch others play. You only have 2 minutes at a time to play with the cats, but you can re-enter the queue a many times as you like. You can even capture the kitties playing by clicking the camera button. These images can then be saved to your personal computer.
We all know that cats love their sleep so the majority of the time they are more interested in catching some z's than playing. Yet it is still fun to try and entice the cats. If you are lucky enough to tempt a cat to play with the toys then it sure is prrrrretty fun!

Hundreds of cat shelters are currently waiting for iPet Companion to be installed in their homes, so in the near future it is guaranteed that it will become wide spread, maybe having some of your local shelters participating.

Not only is this game great fun for users it has also had a huge imapct on the shelters' adoption rates, sources stated 'within 2 weeks playing, adoption rates went up 57% at shelters.'

Lets hope this rate continues to increase.
